Welcome to Diya’s Newsletter by me, Diya. I am currently a grade 8 student, who is interested in education, research and AI. At the start of every month, I will be sending out a newsletter that will talk about things I’m working on, my goals for the month, a podcast recommendation and thought of the month. Now, let’s get into my September recap! That’s me below!
Evolution Hope
This month I joined a student run non-profit called Evolution Hope as a blog writer and researcher. I learned that using google search engines, SORA and other helpful tools means I can now probably get a research paper done in half the time! I have also improved on my leadership skills and it has opened my eyes up to how badly some people have been impacted by COVID-19. I recently wrote an article on how climate change worsens the impact of diseases on society This month I will be fundraising for Partners in Health to create more safe houses where drug addicts can recover with the help of professional therapists in a community setting. Learn more about Evolution Hope here.
This month I joined a ten month accelerator course called TKS. TKS aims to teach kids how to impact billions! In 3 short weeks, I have learned so much about improving my mindset, making connections, public speaking and so much more! Before, I used to dread going to all of my weekend classes but I truly look forward to coming to TKS every Sunday! Every single session is so insightful and often motivational - I would definitely suggest applying to the program next year (applications have now closed). Learn more about TKS here
Goals for October
Learn HTML - I want to comfortably be able to build an entire website from scratch.
Raise $ 5000 for Partners in Health - Will be coming up with fundraisers and will (hopefully) be selling merchandise with Evolution Hope. The money will be given to Partners in Health to invest in more safe houses that can accomodate more people.
Set high standards constantly - Would like to be constantly aiming for high standards in everything. I usually find that I only set high standards for activities or projects that I care about. But now, I want to aim to achieve greatness and try my best in everything I do.
Book and Podcast Recommendation
Podcast - How I Built This
“Guy Raz dives into the stories behind some of the world's best known companies. How I Built This weaves a narrative journey about innovators, entrepreneurs and idealists—and the movements they built. “
Book - Everyday Hero
“Alice doesn't like noise, smells or strangers. She does like rules. Lots of rules. Nobody at her new school knows she has Asperger's, so it doesn't take long for her odd behavior to get her into trouble. When she meets Megan in detention, she doesn't know what to make of her. Megan doesn't smell, she's not terribly noisy, and she's not exactly a stranger, but is she a friend? Megan seems fearless to Alice--but also angry or maybe sad. Alice isn't sure which. When Megan decides to run away, Alice resolves to help her friend, no matter how many rules she has to break or how bad it makes her feel.”
